Ian
Dogole Receives Grant to Honor the Music of Wayne Shorter
Concert
at The Berkeley Hillside Club on Friday Evening, July 8
2011
I
am pleased to report that I recently received my second grant
from the San
Francisco Friends of Chamber Music (SFFCM), this time
to celebrate the illustrious musical contributions of legendary
saxophonist, composer and bandleader Wayne
Shorter. Entitled Shorter
Moments (from the title of his debut recording as
a leader in 1959), this concert will be structured so that each
phase of Wayne’s illustrious career is demonstrated through
compositions from that particular period. I am pleased to
announce the lineup of collaborators for this event:
Musicians:
Many
thanks to SFFCM for their generous support of this project and
its predecessor, Beyond
All Limits, which honored the musical legacy of
the legendary trumpeter/composer Woody
Shaw in a concert at The Berkeley Hillside Club
(Berkeley, California) in May 2009. Pieces from this concert
aired on KCSM’s radio show, “In
The Moment,” produced by Jim Bennett.

Music Education Programs in Marin County Schools
On
the heels of presenting 130 shows to more than 15,000
third-to-fifth-grade students in the San Francisco Public School
District last year as part of the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures
in Music (AIM) program, I have shifted my
focus to presenting educational programs to K-12 students in
Marin County schools. So far this year, I have had the pleasure
of presenting a wide variety of music education programs at
Redwood High School, Tam High School, St. Mark's School, the
Marin Horizons School, Miller Creek Middle School, Tomales High
School and Tomales Elementary/Middle School.
Attention
Bay Area Musicians and Donors
Bread & Roses Needs Your
Help
Bread
& Roses (www.breadandroses.org) is an organization that is
very dear to my heart and worthy of your consideration.
If
You Are a Bay Area Musician
– Bread & Roses is seeking volunteer performers,
especially those with programs that would appeal to youth in a
wide range of facilities, including juvenile halls and special
needs schools. I have performed as a Bread & Roses volunteer
nearly 50 times in the last four years, mostly in youth
facilities, and the opportunity to uplift those who are shut in
and often in desperate circumstances is an honor and a blessing.
If
you are a Bay Area musician and would like to bring some healing
music to teens who are shut in, please contact Bread & Roses
Program Director Carolyn Gauthier at cgauthier@breadandroses.org
or at 415-945-7120 ext. 105.
If
You Are a Potential Donor
– Bread & Roses produces over 600 shows a year and
supports a staff of nine, mostly on the generosity of
contributions from the community. If you are interested in
supporting the tremendous work this organization provides to so
many thousands of people who are facing immense challenges in
their lives, please go to http://www.breadandroses.org/donate.shtml
