Ian Dogole Receives Career Development Grant from the Marin Arts Council

Recently, Ian Dogole received a Career Development Grant from the Marin Arts Council to commence work on a new recording project with his group Hemispheres. These grants, a program of the Marin Arts Council Fund For Artists, offer support to individual artists in all disciplines who need a small amount of assistance to push their artistic and career development to a new level.

New Recording Project for Hemispheres

With funding from the aforementioned Career Development Grant from the Marin Arts Council, Hemispheres, featuring Ian Dogole on percussion, Bill Douglass on bass and bamboo flutes, Sheldon Brown and Paul McCandless on woodwinds and Frank Martin on piano, are about to commence recording of their next project at the Banquet Sound Studios (www.banquetstudios.com) in Sebastopol, California. Warren Kahn will be engineering.

The opening session will include tracking of pieces by Ian Dogole, Sheldon Brown and legendary trumpeter Woody Shaw, plus a group improvisational piece inspired by the duduk music of Armenia. The duduk is one of the oldest double reed instruments in the world, dating back over 3,000 years.

Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses.

Attention Bay Area Musicians and Donors – Bread & Roses Needs Your Help

Bread & Roses (www.breadandroses.org) is an organization that is very dear to my heart and worthy of your consideration.

If You Are a Bay Area Musician – Bread & Roses is seeking volunteer performers, especially those with programs that would appeal to youth in a wide range of facilities, including juvenile halls and special needs schools. I have performed as a Bread & Roses volunteer nearly 50 times in the last four years, mostly in youth facilities, and the opportunity to uplift those who are shut in and often in desperate circumstances is an honor and a blessing.

If you are a Bay Area musician and would like to bring some healing music to teens who are shut in, please contact Bread & Roses Program Director Carolyn Gauthier at cgauthier@breadandroses.org or at 415-945-7120 ext. 105.

If You Are a Potential Donor – Bread & Roses produces over 500 shows a year and supports a staff of nine, mostly on the generosity of contributions from the community. If you are interested in supporting the tremendous work this organization provides to so many thousands of people who are facing immense challenges in their lives, please go to http://www.breadandroses.org/donate.shtml and follow the online instructions for making a donation.
